Story Update Coming Soon!

Florida 8-year-old won't give-up on trying to make friends, despite ongoing physical threats and verbal attacks by school bullies.

Jadah is a 3rd Grader in Florida!

Jadah's mom describes her daughter as "funny, caring, imaginative" and "full of energy." The 8-year-old loves to color, do make-up and wants to be a dancer when she grows up! Jadah's creative play includes making videos with voice-overs and funny filters that keep her family laughing out loud. She also loves the character Stitch, from the cartoon "Lilo & Stitch." As her mom says, "Everything for two years now is all about Stitch!" Jadah's nature is kind, generous and inclusive. If she meets an unhoused person, she pleads with her mom to give money and food. She won't give up on loving the family cat either, even though "Boots" can be pretty cranky when she tries to cuddle with him. 😅

The Florida 3rd Grader wants to be friends with everyone and tries hard to be liked, despite not being invited to parties and being called hurtful names in person and online that target her appearance and weight. Determined to be friendly, Jadah even rode her bike to a neighbor girl's birthday party and bravely asked if she could just "hang out," but was told "no." Jadah celebrates her own birthday without a party, as the family protects her from the sadness of having no classmates show up.

Jadah has experienced bullying since 1st Grade when her family moved from New York to Florida. In 2nd Grade, the bullies escalated their ongoing verbal assaults with physical threats, saying "We are going to beat you up" and "I want to hurt you." Still, her daughter refuses to give up on trying to make friends. She will even walk up to other kids in the park and ask to play, but she often misreads social cues, such as the "sneers, sideways comments and snickers" she receives from her peers. Her mom has seen a major decline in Jadah's happiness as she is taking the bullies' words to heart and telling her mom, "nobody likes me."

Ambassadors, it's time for us to show up and stand up for this delightful, generous and imaginative 3rd Grader and let her know the true facts: WE ALL LIKE HER!!

Jadah is ready to be a friend to all! 🐈💕

At the heart of our partnership with the BROADWAY STAR PROJECT...

The Be A Friend Project was inspired in 2015 by the debut junior cast of "IT'S EASY! The Friend Strong Musical." The middle school actors asked the playwrights, January Akselrad (composer) and Jennifer Young (now BAFP Executive Director) for a way to carry the show's "speak up, reach out and be a friend" message off-stage. Through the visceral experience of theater, the young performers had seen how, as kids, they had the power to save a life - by standing up and being a friend.

Bullying is never just “kids being kids.”  On average, 6 youths (ages 10 & up) die by suicide every day in the U.S. related to bullying - and for each one of those, there are at least 100 attempts.

The impact of bullying—for all involved - leaves lasting damage. Families are left heartbroken and facing financial hardships such as relocating to switch districts, leaving jobs to homeschool, or taking on crushing medical and therapy costs.

The most effective bullying prevention? EMPATHY.

Research confirms it: Students with high empathy stand up for their peers; those with low empathy are more likely to bully or enable it.

That’s why empathy-building is at the heart of everything we do at the BAFP - from our kindness & creative initiatives to the transformative power of theater. DRAMA IS EMPATHY IN ACTION.

The BAFP is thrilled to partner with the Broadway Star Project, not only to connect our dear Aidan's two greatest passions and organizations... but to provide a professional vehicle for talented kids to find a place of belonging and potential, while building their capacity to empathize -  to create a kinder, more caring world for ALL kids. Theater - where everyone belongs - and thrives!
